1972 Ford Bronco

The Ford Bronco has returned, introduced in July of 2020 and it was not alone.  Not one, but two new Broncos debuted in this year, following up on a legacy that stretched from 1966 until 1996, when the last big Bronco rolled off the assembly line.  In its 30 years, Dearborn’s rugged 4×4 changed with the times, laying the foundation for the SUVs that took over the range in the 1990s.  Also, fun fact: The carburetor of the Bronco featured special floats to battle fuel flooding or starvation during off-roading in steep terrain.  A number of other systems were beefed up to make it able to handle itself off-road, including a larger oil pan and a more capable fuel pump.

For consignment, a generation 1 version right out of 1972 with an open back convertible style roll bar cabin setup, large 15-inch white wheels and knobby off road tires, and looking like new.  This vehicle lives up to its name as it is unbroken on the acceleration front, and a full press of the accelerator, ( a good yank of the reins!), and it is off like its namesake, we give you the 1972 Bucking Bronco.  All looking sweet in its beach combing ready Wind Blue hue, a lift kit and overall excellent condition.  Saddle up!

Exterior
Surrrfffsss Uppppppp! on the exterior paint, which is a wonderful Wind Blue with some white accenting. This beach party dweller is looking just fab with well minded gaps throughout.  In nice contrast is the egg crate flat stainless grille with its simple round headlights on either side and a thin but effective shiny chrome bumper below.  All panels are straight and rust free, including the hood with its factory design and all steel.  Our example comes complete with a removable white canvas bikini-esque top for all your open air adventures and presents in clean condition with no tears.  With a windscreen that can tilt forward for unlimited views, and a roll bar just in case an errant wave puts you wheels up, you will be protected.  A tailgate that has a small storage area upon opening it along with a rear bench seat.  Another nicely trimmed thin bumper below and dual exhaust pipes which are peeking out the bottom at an angle it’s ready for the race.  15-inch white painted wheels wrapped in 35×12.5R15 off roading rubbers is on all 4 corners will get you through the wettest sand the coast has to offer.  Gnarly dude!

Interior
Keep it simple would sum it up for this wild ride as we saddle up and climb aboard.  We perch on white vinyl buckets passing white and Wind Blue surrounded door panels on our way inside.  Up front is an original dash with just the facts ma’am on the instrument front.  A single left side of wheel round gauge cluster for this fine equine along with a lineup on the drivers right side of knobs and pulls make up the dash.  This all is within a white painted steel straight vertical panel.  This is fronted by a factory steering wheel in black, with a chromed horn ring.  Your 4-wheel shifter and custom Lokar transmission shifter is on the center on the floor.  Between the front buckets is an all steel custom console with a gray padded vinyl top that also serves as an armrest.  Near perfect blazing red carpeting is flooding the floors in the front, mid section, and behind the rear bench in the small cargo area.  A white vinyl bench in the rear provides room for 2 more and there’s room in the way back for your beach blanket, grill and cooler.  The surrounding paint and interior surfaces are all in excellent condition. A nd don’t forget the roll bar. Let’s catch some waves!

Drivetrain
They say never look a gift horse in the mouth, however we here at Classic Auto Mall, with our inquiring minds, pay no attention to this theory so we pop the hood and are met with pure bling and horsepower!  302 cubes all bathed in Ford blue rests in the well restored bay.  Blue painted finish valve covers offset all the chrome with a red filter open air cleaner assembly that hides the 2-barrel carburetor.  Red high voltage ignition wiring and a large distributor is in front of the mill.  On the back is a C4 3-speed automatic with a Ford 9 inch rear axle.  The front 4×4 drive is courtesy of Dana.  Headers help with the exhale and the glasspack style mufflers allow this truck to make some noise.  Giddy up Duuuuude!

Undercarriage
Up on our lift we can inspect the belly of this beast and we note solid full frame construction, no rust, and all looking simple and good to go.  Radius arm and coil springs for the front suspension, and leaf springs for the rear combined with a suspension lift kit help you traverse and dunes you may come across.  Drum brakes upfront and in back along with power steering.  I see a little bit of invasive rust is noted in the rear wheel houses along with some in the flooring and rear quarter panel drop offs.

Drive-Ability
The Wind Blue whistled at me and I had to take it for a ride.  It did not disappoint and was the most fun I’ve had driving the many cars in our inventory here in a while.  An awesome kick is had with a press of the accelerator, plenty of straight bias free whoa on the solid braking, and wild rail like handling was exhibited.  Unfortunately, our test track hasn’t been upgraded with beach side accommodations just yet, so I’ll save the sea spray for you.

Plenty of thoroughbred power, the sure footedness of a mountain goat, and looks to attract attention like a Clydesdale, this fine example of the Ford Bronco from 1972 is just a load of fun to drive and looks great while doing it.  If you are in the market for a classic 4×4 and ready to party the evening away on your favorite beach, stop by Classic Auto Mall and check this one out.  Beach blanket bingo anyone??
